Mokhtar Belmokhtar: Problem Al Qaeda Employee

BP gas plant siege mastermind Mokhtar Belmokhtar was reprimanded by al Qaeda for failing to hand in expenses, a letter shows. 10:59am UK, Wednesday 29 May 2013 Mokhtar Belmokhtar defied al Qaeda central command to form his own group Tweet Email One of the world's most wanted terrorists was reprimanded by al Qaeda for being a bad employee who had failed to carry out a single spectacular operation, a letter has revealed. In a lengthy and scathing missive, Mokhtar Belmokhtar, the mastermind behind the Algerian gas plant raid, received a ticking off from the leaders of al Qaeda's North African branch for a number of transgressions. Among them were listed failures to answer his phone, turn in his expenses reports, attend meetings and carry out orders. The Algerian-born militant, who claimed he lost an eye in battle and is referred to as Mr Marlboro because of his cigarette smuggling business, responded to the criticism by quitting and forming his

Massive submerged structure stumps Israeli archaeologists

Published May 23, 2013 | Associated Press advertisement The massive circular structure appears to be an archaeologist's dream: a recently discovered antiquity that could reveal secrets of ancient life in the Middle East and is just waiting to be excavated. It's thousands of years old -- a conical, manmade behemoth weighing hundreds of tons, practically begging to be explored. The problem is -- it's at the bottom of the biblical Sea of Galilee. For now, at least, Israeli researchers are left stranded on dry land, wondering what finds lurk below. The monumental structure, made of boulders and stones with a diameter of 230 feet,  emerged from a routine sonar scan in 2003 . Now archaeologists are trying to raise money to allow them access to the submerged stones. "It's very enigmatic, it's very interesting, but the bottom line is we don't know when it's from, we don't know what it's connected to, we don't know its funct
