La Cotidianul fileaza o lampa...

Peste cu cap transparent

Scientists in California have filmed a fish with a transparent head. And the encounter has helped researchers solve the 50-year-old mystery of how the fish uses its extraordinary eyes to see in the gloomy ocean depths. Ever since the Barreleye Fish was discovered in 1939, marine biologists have known that its tubular eyes were very good at collecting light. However, the eyes were believed to be fixed in place and seemed to provide only a tunnel-vision view of whatever was directly above the fish's head. New research shows that the unusual eyes can rotate within a transparent shield that covers the fish's head. This allows the Barreleye to peer up at potential prey or focus forward to see what it is eating. Barreleyes typically live near the depth where sunlight from the surface fades to complete blackness. They use their ultra-sensitive tubular eyes to search for the faint silhouettes of prey overhead. Bruce Robison and Kim Reisenbichler of the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research I

Mie mi se parea ca romanii erau in

Ministru beat. Japonez. De finante.

The finance minister of Japan, Shoichi Nakagawa, denied claims he had been drunk at a G7 news conference in Rome saying he had taken a large amount of cold medicine.Shoichi Nakagawa, 55, a close ally of Prime Minister Taro Aso, said he had not drunk more than a sip of alcohol before the news conference that followed a Group of Seven finance leaders meeting in Rome. But he said he had taken a large amount of cold medicine, which may have affected his performance badly, and that his future was in the hands of Aso. The fuss over Nakagawa's behaviour at the news conference comes as Aso's public support is plummeting ahead of an election that must be held no later than October and as the economy sinks deeper into recession.

Avocatul a chemat in judecata compania de asigurari si A CASTIGAT.

Egyptian blogger expressing support for Gaza reportedly detained and beaten by police, according to Cairo-based Arabic Network for Human Rights Information Egyptian police have beaten and detained a 22-year-old Egyptian blogger and activist who has expressed support for Gaza, an Egyptian human rights group said on Monday. A statement from the Cairo-based Arabic Network for Human Rights Information said police officers on Friday beat Diaa Eddin Gad in front of his house in the Nile Delta province of Gharbiya, put him in a police car and drove off. Police gave no reason for the arrest, and have not yet disclosed where Gad is being held, according to the group. An interior ministry spokesman did not return calls asking for confirmation of the detention. Gamal Eid, director of the Network, described Gad as a member of the liberal Wafd party and the Kefaya (Enough) protest movement, and said he had attended protests against the recent 22-day Israeli offensive on the Gaza Strip.

Astazi mi s-a intamplat ceva inedit. Ala, curajos, raspunde: "Ne jucam". "Auzi,

Altă Biblie...

Authorities in northern Cyprus believe they have found an ancient version of the Bible written in Syriac, a dialect of the native language of Jesus. The manuscript was found in a police raid on suspected antiquity smugglers. Turkish Cypriot police testified in a court hearing they believe the manuscript could be about 2,000 years old. The manuscript carries excerpts of the Bible written in gold lettering on vellum and loosely strung together, photos provided to Reuters showed. One page carries a drawing of a tree, and another eight lines of Syriac script. Experts were however divided over the provenance of the manuscript, and whether it was an original, which would render it priceless, or a fake. Experts said the use of gold lettering on the manuscript was likely to date it later than 2,000 years. "I'd suspect that it is most likely to be less than 1,000 years old," leading expert Peter Williams, Warden of Tyndale House, University of Cambridge told Reuters. Turki

Rubik revine

A new game by Professor Erno Rubik, inventor of the iconic Cube, is tipped to become a best-seller when it goes on sale later this year. The Rubik’s 360 is set to repeat the success of the maddening Cube, which became an overnight sensation almost three decades ago and remains the world’s fastest-selling toy. Now the reclusive Hungarian inventor hopes to recreate the buzz of Rubik’s Cube with his new game, featuring six balls trapped within three transparent plastic spheres. The puzzle, shown to the Sunday Telegraph ahead of its unveiling at a toy industry fair in Germany on February 5, confronts users with the same frustrating challenge – a task that is simple to understand, with only one possible solution, yet extremely difficult to execute. Players must get the coloured balls from an inner sphere into matching slots on the outer sphere by shaking them through a middle sphere that has only two holes. The new puzzle is already arousing interest among Rubik’s Cube afficionados. Ron

Thieves stole a lump of fossilised dinosaur dung from the Natural History Museum in London, it has been revealed. When staff at the Natural History Museum noticed that one of their exhibits had disappeared, it seemed reminiscent of the 1970s comedy film One of Our Dinosaurs is Missing. The thieves, however, must have been disappointed when they realised that what they had smuggled out was not a valuable piece of dinosaur skeleton but a piece of 65-million-year-old fossilised dung. Details of the theft have been revealed for the first time in a list of specimens that have been stolen or lost from the London museum's collection over the past five years. Among the other items taken thieves were 167 scarab beetles originating from South America, and a centipede. Another 25 scarab beetles were stolen from a car in Vienna while they were on loan to a museum in the city. The three-inch piece of fossilised dinosaur dung, or coprolite as they are known, was stolen while it was secured on di
